Pitch, Hit & Run is a free event that creates a safe and fun environment for kids to stay active and learn or continue to play baseball and softball in their local communities. Youth from ate 7 to 14 can Pitch, Hit & Run through this local competition and earn a chance to compete at one of PHR’s Team Championship sites held within Major League Baseball and Minor League Baseball’s Stadiums spread across the US. Top 4 scores in each age division from one of the Team Championships, wins an all-expenses-paid trip for the player and one guardian to Game 2 of the World Series.
JMayor Shudak will give a presentation followed by an open question-and-answer session. The town hall is designed to provide updates on City initiatives while also creating space for residents to ask questions and engage directly with City leadership.
Topics will include updates on the new Mayor’s 311 resident reporting tool, River’s Edge Phase Four, East Manawa housing development, improvements planned for Big Lake Park, and the Comprehensive 2050 Plan kickoff.

Speaking of Death is a conversation series guided by local death doula Addie of Moonlit Moth Doula Services. Death is one thing we all have in common, yet our culture offers few opportunities to talk openly about it or ask honest questions. This space invites the community to gather and talk about death, grief, and loss.
There is no set agenda. Conversations unfold organically and shift depending on who is present and what life experiences people feel moved to share in the moment. This is not a workshop, therapy group, or support group, but a shared circle where stories, questions and reflections are welcome as they arise.
You don’t need to arrive with a particular experience, belief, or level of knowledge about the end of life. Listening is always enough, and sharing is always a choice. All are welcome.

Clean Sweep is a fun, community-powered volunteer event dedicated to keeping our streets clean and beautiful. Each spring, neighbors from all across Council Bluffs come together to pick up litter, connect with one another, and make a visible difference in the places we call home. Volunteers can easily sign up and choose the streets or sections of the community they’d like to help tidy uIt's a simple way to have a big impact!
Since we began keeping records in 2012, volunteers have collected more than 28,000 pounds of trash. And that’s only part of the story—just imagine how much good has been done since Clean Sweep first started back in 1971! Year after year, this tradition helps brighten our neighborhoods, support local pride, and bring people together for a shared cause.

Cheers for CB Schools is a community celebration bringing together local businesses, alumni, and friends of public education to enjoy live music, food, and brews all while supporting teachers and classrooms across the Council Bluffs Community School District.
This year, the event will be held at Full Fledged Brewing Company and will feature local food vendors and live music by Touch Of Grey.
Proceeds from this event support the Foundation’s Annual Grants Program, providing grants to teachers to enhance learning and educational opportunities for their students inside and outside of the classroom.

In this workshop, you’ll choose a vase that speaks to you from four thoughtfully selected styles—each one a blank canvas ready to become uniquely yours. From there, you’ll design and paint your piece however you’d like. Whether you lean toward clean and minimal or bold and expressive, this is your space to explore.
Stencils and guidance will be available to help bring your vision to life, making this workshop approachable for beginners and inspiring for seasoned creatives alike.
Each vase is pre-sealed and waterproofed on the inside, so when you’re finished, you’ll leave with a fully functional piece—ready to hold fresh flowers, brighten a space, or serve as a reminder of an evening well spent.

Railroad Days is an annual celebration of all things train and track, and this year, all the fun will be happening in Council Bluffs! Celebrate CB's rich railroad heritage and place in history as historic Mile Zero for the Union Pacific Railroad. Between 12 PM and 6 PM on May 9 and May 10, 2026, there will be numerous train-themed activities and locations to visit.
The Union Pacific Railroad Museum, RailsWest History Museum, Hoff Family Arts & Culture Center, and the Historic General Dodge House are again teaming up to offer this annual event. Based in Omaha, Jennifer and Gabriel live at a natural crossroads, where the deciduous forests of the east meet the grasslands of the Great Plains and the doorway to the Rockies begins. It’s a landscape that reflects the incredible diversity of birds that pass through and call this region home. Their presentation tells the story of how they discovered the world of birding and, in time, how photography became their way of exploring it more deeply.
Drawing on their backgrounds in biology and psychology, Jennifer and Gabriel are fascinated not only by how birds look, but by how they live: their behavior, their character, and their connection to the landscapes they inhabit. Through images and stories, they share an intimate look at the birds of the Great Plains and beyond, and hope to inspire a deeper appreciation for the beauty and wonder waiting all around us.

Qi Gong is a centuries-old practice that combines relaxed breathing with slow, gentle movement to restore energy, calm the nervous system, and support overall wellness. In this beginner-friendly class, students will be guided through movements from the Shibashi Tai Chi Qi Gong 18-form, leaving them feeling relaxed and refreshed.
Studies supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) suggest Qi Gong may help reduce stress and anxiety, improve balance, support immune health, manage chronic pain, and enhance cardiovascular and respiratory function.
What to Expect
This 45-minute class includes time for questions afterward. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes, as participants will stand for most of the session. No experience or equipment needed.

The Iowa Driver Improvement Program (DIP) will examine attitudes and behavior in relation to driving. It will focus on teaching drivers how their behind the wheel attitude affects their driving behavior. This is part of the Agency's Evidence-Based Programs. Research studies have proven that these programs promote documented health benefits and prevent disease or injury among older adults. Seniors who participate in these evidence based programs have a better quality of life, better long-term health and fewer falls.

The Pottawattamie County Recorder's Office will be holding traveling office hours on the second Tuesday of each month, from 4pm-8pm. Each month we will set up shop in a different town.
The initiative is designed to make Recorder’s Office services more accessible, especially for residents who are unable to visit the courthouse during standard business hours. During these traveling sessions, staff will be available to assist with:

Copies of deeds
Marriage applications

Did you know the story of your hometown stretches back more than 2,500 years? In this interactive class, discover fascinating facts and the moments that made your hometown what it is today!
This class takes students back 2,500 years to the first known local inhabitants, and then on to Lewis and Clark, the fur traders, and the forced reaction of the Potawatomi. We wrap up with the arrival of the Latter Day Saints and their years here, which profoundly impacted the future of what became Council Bluffs.

Richard Warner serves as the president of the Historical Society of Pottawattamie County and vice president of the Pottawattamie County Genealogical Society. Troy Stolp serves on the board of directors of the Historical Society of Pottawattamie County.
Before television, radio, and film, there was vaudeville. Did you know that there were famous vaudeville actors from Iowa? Rhythm & Pep: The Vaudeville Career of the Pearson Brothers delves into the history of these brothers and how they got this entertaining career started. The brothers came from Clarinda, Iowa and were working in their father's coal mines in the area when they decided to put together a vaudeville acrobatic dance routine. By 1920 they were performing on the Orpheum circuit and the Palace Theatre in New York, becoming famous in the world of vaudeville!
Join us for this local history presentation from Council Bluffs native Daniel Henderson. Henderson inherited the family's scrapbooks of this bygone era and began the research into this fun and exciting piece of Iowa history that still resonates today.

The Swim course is a clockwise course straight out from the beach and back.
The Bike Course consists of two complete clockwise loops of the lake.
The Run Course exits the transition area and uses portions of the paved trail and adjacent streets.

Did you know in the early railroad era, Council Bluffs was the 5th largest rail center in the country? In this interactive class, discover fascinating facts and the moments that made your hometown what it is today! This class examines why we had such a railroad dominance and how the impact of that is still felt today! The mood in Council Bluffs at the close of the 19th Century was euphoric with the pervasive feeling our growth was unstoppable; the national economy revolved around railroads, and we had more of them than just about anywhere else.
Class taught by Richard Warner and Troy Stolp. Richard Warner serves as the president of the Historical Society of Pottawattamie County and vice president of the Pottawattamie County Genealogical Society. Troy Stolp serves on the board of directors of the Historical Society of Pottawattamie County.
When it comes to working on electronics, soldering is an essential skill. In this class, we’ll go over the basics of the soldering iron, types of solder, basic terminology, and safety. Then, we’ll put that knowledge to use by practicing wire joining on spare circuit boards.

The Wall That Heals, a three-quarter scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial along with a mobile Education Center, is coming to Pottawattamie County from May 22-25, 2026, at Lewis Central High School and will be open 24 hours a day and free to the public. The exhibit will visit a total of 31 communities in 2026. The traveling exhibit honors the more than three million Americans who served in the U.S. Armed Forces in the Vietnam War, and it bears the names of the 58,281 men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in Vietnam.
The Wall replica is 375 feet in length and stands 7.5 feet high at its tallest point. With the replica at this size, visitors are able to experience The Wall rising above them as they walk towards the apex, a key feature of the design of The Wall in D.C.

The Wall That Heals, a three-quarter scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial along with a mobile Education Center, is coming to Pottawattamie County from May 22-25, 2026, at Lewis Central High School and will be open 24 hours a day and free to the public. The exhibit will visit a total of 31 communities in 2026. The traveling exhibit honors the more than three million Americans who served in the U.S. Armed Forces in the Vietnam War, and it bears the names of the 58,281 men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in Vietnam.
The Wall replica is 375 feet in length and stands 7.5 feet high at its tallest point. With the replica at this size, visitors are able to experience The Wall rising above them as they walk towards the apex, a key feature of the design of The Wall in D.C.
Walk in Shelby, Iowa, a town with a picturesque cemetery, a nature trail lined with wildflowers and a wetlands trail.
$4 fee per walker; exact change is appreciated
A 10 km and a 5 km route will be available (6.2 and 3.1 miles)
The trail rating for this walk is 1B (flat with one big hill, on rough paved surfaces).

Bingocize® strategically combines the game of bingo, exercise, and/or health education. Groups of participants play Bingocize® twice per week, with each 45-60 minute session consisting of exercises (range of motion, balance, muscle strengthening, and endurance exercises) and/or health education questions.
This is part of the Agency's Evidence-Based Programs. Research studies have proven that these programs promote documented health benefits and prevent disease or injury among older adults. Seniors who participate in these evidence based programs have a better quality of life, better long-term health and fewer falls.

Join avid birder, Nic Salick, for an evening guided hike where you'll catch one of the most beautiful sunsets around while learning about local birds that call Iowa's beautiful Loess Hills home.
This evening trail walk will offer birders and nature observers of all skill levels a chance to see the breeding birds of the Loess Hills. This time of year presents a great opportunity to see birds when they’re most active. During peak breeding season for most birds in our area, this outing offers participants a great opportunity to learn about the behaviors and songs of birds firsthand. Nic is hopeful we’ll see a broad suite of species, likely including Indigo Buntings, Rose-breasted Grosbeaks, Baltimore Orioles, wrens, and maybe, finger’s crossed, Scarlet Tanagers!
While we’ll focus our efforts on birds, we’ll talk about aspects of habitat, land management, and conservation at large. As always, there's no better place to catch a sunset than at Hitchcock!
Please note: This program will take place outdoors and involves pedestrian travel on uneven, dirt trails. Please plan accordingly and leave your pets at home.

Habitat for Humanity of Council Bluffs will soon begin construction on six townhomes in Minden, IA. To learn more about these homes and apply for homeownership, register for an upcoming information session hosted at the Minden Fire Hall. The construction of these homes was made possible through a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) for disaster relief. For the first four months, priority will be given to households impacted by the 2019 floods. After that, anyone who attended an information session and applied will be considered.
Flood impact does not necessarily mean you lost your home. It can include things like road closures or other disruptions. We encourage you to reach out to discuss your personal situation and see if you may qualify.

Join Tom O’Brien, owner of Gardens on Glen, for a hands-on workshop exploring the rewarding practice of cultivating mushrooms outdoors. Participants will learn how to prepare growing beds using wood chips and sawdust spawn, manage moisture and shade conditions, and integrate mushroom patches into existing garden spaces. Tom will explain how outdoor mushroom cultivation not only yields delicious, nutrient-rich, sometimes perennial-like harvests but also enhances soil health, boosts microbial activity, and supports companion plants. Attendees will gain step-by-step experience inoculating their own substrate and understanding the life cycle of fungi. Each participant will prepare a take-home mushroom starter setup, ready to establish a thriving outdoor mushroom bed.

We invite you to join us for this program, which will provide an overview of how gardening serves as a stress reducer and mood booster. Participants will also take home seeds and flowers to add to their home or container gardens so that the positive effects can last all season long.

These are nocturnal, owl-like birds that don't build nests and have some funky behaviors. Qi Gong is a centuries-old practice combining relaxed breathing with slow, gentle movement to restore energy, calm the nervous system, and support overall wellness. In this class, you’ll be guided through movements from the Shibashi Tai Chi Qi Gong 18 form, leaving you feeling relaxed and refreshed.
Research supported by the National Institutes of Health suggests Qi Gong may help reduce stress and anxiety, improve balance, manage chronic pain, support immune health, and enhance cardiovascular and respiratory function.
