The Taco Ride takes place every Thursday evening on the Wabash Trace Nature Trail, from Council Bluffs, Iowa to Mineola, Iowa, and back. The scenic ride is about 20 miles through the Loess Hills and ends with dinner at Tobey Jack's Mineola Steakhouse. The weekly rides take place from when the trail is dry enough in the spring (usually in April or May) until late in the fall (usually until Halloween).
Most riders start at Iowa West Foundation Trailhead Park where parking is available. Slightly more than halfway between the trailhead and Tobey Jack's, many riders will stop at a picnic area, nicknamed Margaritaville, for a quick break and to join in a conversation with fellow bikers or to partake in refreshments they brought with them.

Book a one-on-one appointment to learn the basics of how to use a sewing machine: from setting it up properly, to sewing straight lines! We’ll cover: sewing machine parts and accessories, how to thread the machine, how to install the bobbin, and more! The board also conducts hearings on appeals of administrative interpretations pertaining to the Zoning Ordinance. The Avoca Main Street Farmers Market runs on North Elm Street beginning June 3, 2026 and continuing every Wednesday evening until September 30, 2026. The market features fresh local produce, baked goods, honey, fresh cut flowers, homemade soaps, crafts, and prepared food truck meals from farmers, food producers, and local artisans. The Avoca Public Library will offer bi-lingual family programming, and the market will feature weekly musical performances and other all-ages entertainment.
Monthly cook-out and open house. Join us for hamburgers, hot dogs, brats and chicken breasts. Tour our military museum and working hangar, meet pilots, mechanics, instructors and military history and aviation enthusiasts. Experience aircraft and aviation and explore the opportunities that exist in aviation today. You can even schedule a ride in our historical Fairchild PT-19 open-cockpit airplane.
Admission is free, cookout is a free will donation, museum and hangar tours are also free. PT-19 rides are $295.00 and are tax deductible.
We start serving about 5:30 PM and will serve until about 7 PM or until we run out of food.

The Taco Ride takes place every Thursday evening on the Wabash Trace Nature Trail, from Council Bluffs, Iowa to Mineola, Iowa, and back. The scenic ride is about 20 miles through the Loess Hills and ends with dinner at Tobey Jack's Mineola Steakhouse. The weekly rides take place from when the trail is dry enough in the spring (usually in April or May) until late in the fall (usually until Halloween).
Most riders start at Iowa West Foundation Trailhead Park where parking is available. Slightly more than halfway between the trailhead and Tobey Jack's, many riders will stop at a picnic area, nicknamed Margaritaville, for a quick break and to join in a conversation with fellow bikers or to partake in refreshments they brought with them.

Arrowhead Obstacle Trail Run is a 5k (3.1 mile) event on the scenic trails of Arrowhead Park near Neola, Iowa featuring 15+ obstacles. There is also a 1 Mile Kid's Obstacle Trail Run with 10+ obstacles! All proceeds benefit the Pottawattamie County Trails Association. The event will be held on Saturday, September 19th, 2026 beginning at 10:30 AM with the 1 Mile Kids Run.
This is NOT a "mud run" and there are no mud pits to crawl through (and therefore no cold post-race hose showers are necessary). All obstacles in the 1 Mile and 5k Open Wave are optional (except the hills, those are fixed in place). You may choose to run it as a 5k Trail Run, skipping the obstacles. Competitive Wave runners must complete all obstacles to be eligible for a top 10 finisher medal.
The 1 Mile Kid's Run is recommended for ages 6-12 and adult chaperones, but is open to anyone.

Fall harvests bring a different set of flavors and preservation opportunities. In this hands-on
class, you’ll work with fall crops such as root vegetables, apples, and hardy greens to learn
practical preservation techniques. We’ll focus on methods like water bath canning, pickling, and
simple storage strategies that help extend shelf life and reduce waste. You’ll gain direct
experience preparing and preserving seasonal produce, along with guidance on adapting these
methods at home. Participants will leave with preserved items and the confidence to make the
most of their fall harvest.

In 1911, J.K. Daniels sculpted the Fair's first butter cow and was succeeded by J.E. Wallace of Florida. In 1957, Earl Frank Dutt of Illinois took over the sculpting duties. Norma “Duffy” Lyon of Toledo, Iowa, began sculpting in 1960, becoming the fourth person and first woman to sculpt the Fair's butter beauties. In 2006, after 15 years of apprenticing with Duffy, Sarah Pratt of West Des Moines became the Fair's fifth butter sculptor.
Join Sarah Pratt, the Iowa State Fair's butter sculptor, to talk about what it's like to sculpt the butter cow and to teach us how she does it! Each participant will receive their own stick of butter to sculpt. Participants will also be encouraged to indulge their own creative ideas and sculpt beyond buildings if they would like. The end result will be the collaborative creation of a butter community.
