Overview

Mt. Crescent Ski Area is a 106-acre property tucked away in Iowa's Loess Hills and is a part of Hitchcock Nature Center, a 1,500-acre nature preserve. It is owned and operated by Pottawattamie County Conservation.

  • The season generally runs from December through March, with opening and closing dates being weather-dependent. 
  • A special 25% lift ticket discount is offered to Pottwattamie County residents only.
  • Before participating in an activity at Mt. Crescent, all participants must sign and turn in an Activity & Participation waiver.

Park Features

Skiing  & Snowboarding

Snowboarding at Mt. Crescent

Mt. Crescent offers weeknight and weekend skiing and snowboarding on 10 trails ranging from easy to expert.

Skis and snowboards are available for rental online or in person. Online rental reservations are highly encouraged to secure your equipment, especially for special events such as Midnight Madness.

Sledding

Family Sledding at Mt. Crescent Ski Area

Mt. Crescent offers family-friendly sledding with chairlift access on select days throughout the ski season.

All participants must use sleds provided by Mt. Crescent and stay on Easy Street Ski Trail. For safety reasons, personal sleds and sledding on other trails are not permitted.

Special Events

Evening Ski Lift at Mt. Crescent

Mt. Crescent offers several special events that provide benefits to our visitors:

  • College & Military Night: Discounts for college students and military members every Thursday 
  • Food Pantry Wednesdays: Bring a canned food item for $5 off lift tickets or rentals
  • Scout Days: Discounts for scout members and their families every Friday
  • Homeschool Days: Discounts for homeschool families every Friday
  • Midnight Madness: Late-night skiing and snowboarding on select Friday evenings
  • Military, EMT, Police/Fire Discounts: Available for select in-person purchases by active members with ID

Mt. Crescent Lessons

Mt. Crescent is a great destination for beginners and first-time skiers and offers several affordable lesson opportunities:

  • Little Shredders (ages 5-7)
  • Weekend Warriors (ages 8 to 10)
  • Development Program (ages 7 to 14)
  • 5-Star Group Lesson (ages 13+)
  • 1, 2, 3 Learn to Ski/Snowboard
