This event offers a unique opportunity to explore the range of essential services housed within the facility, which opened to the public in November 2024. Services and departments within the building include Animal Control, Environmental Services, Health Services, Community Health, WIC, the county Medical Examiner, Disease Investigation, Epidemiology, and more.
Guests can enjoy guided tours of the building, meet with staff from each program, and learn more about departmental highlights, service usage data, and photos from the building’s construction. Light refreshments will be available.

The Avoca Public Library will offer bilingual family programming, and the market features weekly musical performances and other entertainment for all ages.

This weekly, interfaith group gathers to practice meditation and contemplative prayer in community, to investigate how to slow down the mental and physical bodies to cultivate self-awareness and well-being, and to be supported in establishing a regular rhythm of a contemplative practice through guided meditations and Centering Prayer. This is an opportunity to learn and experience something new in community and grow deeper in your contemplative life!

The Taco Ride takes place every Thursday evening on the Wabash Trace Nature Trail, from Council Bluffs, Iowa to Mineola, Iowa, and back. The scenic ride is about 20 miles through the Loess Hills and ends with dinner at Tobey Jack's Mineola Steakhouse. The weekly rides take place from when the trail is dry enough in the spring (usually in April or May) until late in the fall (usually until Halloween).
Most riders start at Iowa West Foundation Trailhead Park where parking is available. Slightly more than halfway between the trailhead and Tobey Jack's, many riders will stop at a picnic area, nicknamed Margaritaville, for a quick break and to join in a conversation with fellow bikers or to partake in refreshments they brought with them.

This volunteer event is perfect for hardworking helpers who aren't afraid to get a little dirty while putting the finishing touches on a rerouted trail segment and assisting with trail repair on National Trails Day. Due to the steep topography in the Loess Hills, a portion of Moonseed Trail has suffered significant erosion and trail damage from heavy rains. We need YOUR help to reroute a large portion of this trail and make it more sustainable.

The Crescent Farmers Market runs biweekly through September 27th. This is a wonderful outdoor event that is family-friendly and dog-friendly! There is an on-site playground, perfect for your little ones to enjoy! There is delicious food and drink to enjoy and 20+ market vendors to shop at. Our vendors are all local farmers and growers, bakers, and creators who hand-make all of their products. We also offer live music once a month! We can't wait to see you there!
Learn the basics of raising rabbits, including care, feeding, and housing. This class will provide practical advice on breeding, health management, and the benefits of raising rabbits for meat, fur, or as pets.
This event is held in conjunction with Iowa's FREE fishing weekend, which means a license is not required for Iowa residents. All other IDNR fishing regulations apply. Children must bring their own fishing pole and bait to join in the fishing derby fun. Some bait will be provided. Children must be under 16 years of age to participate. Every child entered in the derby will receive a snack and prizes are awarded in several categories.
A $3 per vehicle entry fee or Pottawattamie Conservation membership is required to participate. Weather permitting.

This hands-on series is designed for landowners, natural resource professionals, and outdoor enthusiasts looking to deepen their knowledge of managing Iowa’s unique ecosystems. Participants will explore topics such as tree and plant identification, invasive species management, herbicide application, equipment operation, trail design, tree and shrub removal, wildfire planning, and ecosystem restoration. Some classes will include fieldwork at off-site locations, offering real-world applications and insights.
This course is part of the Land Stewardship Series. Learn to identify native and invasive trees, plants, and shrubs that impact western Iowa’s prairie and savanna ecosystems. This hands-on course will teach you how to recognize species that need protection and those that require management or removal to preserve fragile landscapes. Gain practical skills to support effective land stewardship and conservation efforts.

Join avid birder, Nic Salick, for an evening hike where we'll look for Nightjars in the prime of their mating season. These are nocturnal, owl-like birds that don't build nests and have some funky behaviors.
Please note: Part of this program will take place outdoors and involves pedestrian travel on uneven, dirt trails. Please plan accordingly and leave your pets at home.

Facilitator: Nic Salick has worked in the conservation field for over a decade, much of which has focused on better understanding birds and their habitats. His work in field ornithology has spanned from the grasslands of the Midwest and Great Plains to the deserts of the Southwest and the wetlands of the central flyway. Previously he worked as a private lands wildlife biologist in the Loess Hills and Missouri River region where he supported landowners and farmers to incorporate wildlife and improve their habitat offerings. Currently, Nic is a Development Officer for the Nature Conservancy in Nebraska. Even when not at work he has nature on the brain. He enjoys hiking the Loess Hills, birding, hunting behind his trusty dog Greta, and enjoying a book in his hammock.

The Taco Ride takes place every Thursday evening on the Wabash Trace Nature Trail, from Council Bluffs, Iowa to Mineola, Iowa, and back. The scenic ride is about 20 miles through the Loess Hills and ends with dinner at Tobey Jack's Mineola Steakhouse. The weekly rides take place from when the trail is dry enough in the spring (usually in April or May) until late in the fall (usually until Halloween).
Most riders start at Iowa West Foundation Trailhead Park where parking is available. Slightly more than halfway between the trailhead and Tobey Jack's, many riders will stop at a picnic area, nicknamed Margaritaville, for a quick break and to join in a conversation with fellow bikers or to partake in refreshments they brought with them.

The Avoca Main Street Farmers Market takes place on North Elm Street every Wednesday evening from 5-7 p.m. The market offers fresh local produce, baked goods, honey, fresh cut flowers, homemade soaps, crafts, and prepared food truck meals from farmers, food producers, and local artisans. The Avoca Public Library will offer bilingual family programming, and the market features weekly musical performances and other entertainment for all ages.
The City of CB is are popping up a series of two-hour dog parks at Cochran Park! Bring the dogs and join us from 5-7 p.m. at Cochran Park on the last Wednesday of the month.

The Taco Ride takes place every Thursday evening on the Wabash Trace Nature Trail, from Council Bluffs, Iowa to Mineola, Iowa, and back. The scenic ride is about 20 miles through the Loess Hills and ends with dinner at Tobey Jack's Mineola Steakhouse. The weekly rides take place from when the trail is dry enough in the spring (usually in April or May) until late in the fall (usually until Halloween).
Most riders start at Iowa West Foundation Trailhead Park where parking is available. Slightly more than halfway between the trailhead and Tobey Jack's, many riders will stop at a picnic area, nicknamed Margaritaville, for a quick break and to join in a conversation with fellow bikers or to partake in refreshments they brought with them.

Hitchcock Insect Club is a grassroots club made up of local individuals who are passionate about bugs, and they want YOU to join in the fun!
The featured insect will be presented by Dr. Ted Burk with Creighton University. The main program will be presented by Jennifer Hopwood, her talk is titled "Community Involvement in Insect Conservation.”
Jennifer Hopwood is a senior pollinator conservation specialist with the Xerces Society.
The presentation will start at 6:30 p.m. in the Goldfinch room in the Loess Hills Lodge, but you are welcome to join a group walkabout beforehand at 5:30 p.m.

The mission of the Lake Manawa Fireworks organization is to perform all functions necessary to continue the long tradition of holding a first-class fireworks show to celebrate Independence Day. The duties of our group are to raise funds for the show via local donations, to contract with a professional fireworks provider, and to coordinate the event with all local agencies such as Police, Fire, Sheriff, DOT, State Patrol, County Health, and the DNR. In addition, we are in charge of all communications working with local newspapers, local radio, social media, and the Chamber of Commerce.
